Sound Design: Playing with frequencies in Ableton

Sample of a sample for a simple sample for sampling!

I started playing around with an old recording I caught on my Tascam DR7 Mk2 field recorder, if was me coughing in the reverberated hallway of a friend's previous flat. I find myself using it quite frequently now I can get a variety of sounds from it by reversing it, adding multiple delays, flanger, and setting up the audio sample to the keys on the MIDI keyboard is useful too! I used it as the pulses and an explosive sound in this ambient song here;

So this is how the orignal sample sounds

This is how the cough sounds a couple mixes later and used as the fundamental sound in this demonstration

I used this sample on a loop in Ableton, I used a group of tools on the track such as a Frequency shifter, Autio filter, ping pong delay and chorus manipulating plugins linked to the macro controls on my MDI keyboard to have a hands on easier access to the sound shaping

I started off by by using the frequency shifter and auto filter connecting the waveform shapes, the frequency and Q bandwidth controls on the macro controls I managed to produce some nice unique sounds from playing around with the controls, I then added in the ping pong delay and a chorus plugin to add in some extra liveliness to the sounds and more variety of sounds.

I practiced to get to know the capabilities of each macro connected parameter playing off of one another in specific sequenced pattern, then I would record the automation into the track. It's annoying that I managed to get some really groovy sound from this but I wasn't recording at the time..my bad..

So now I am left with this is one recorded piece of the few that I can now cut and re sample for practical sessions.
